What is the Global Game Jam? 

What is Global Game Jam?

"Jam" is a reference to musical jam sessions. Similarly, the goal with a "game jam" is to come together and make a video game, or a non-digital (analog) game like a board game or card game. Participants rapidly prototype game designs and inject new ideas to help inspire and grow the global game industry. We share a common theme and constraints. We ask participants to create a game from beginning to end in a prescribed time. The brief time span is meant to help encourage creative thinking which results in small but innovative and experimental games, some of which have been developed beyond the GGJ into a commercial success.

The GGJ mission is to empower individuals worldwide to learn, experiment, and create together through the medium of games. The organization oversees various efforts both globally and locally to encourage communities to join together to make games. The GGJ provides unique opportunities for people to create, collaborate and practice their game creation skills, and invites everyone of any skill level to take part.

Our mission is to highlight the intricacies of how video games are developed and expand the realm of opportunity and who can be a part of the process in order to build better games. Our goal is to empower game devs by encouraging collaborative development and enable them to build better games in an innovative co-working game house.

Coexist Gaming is a subscription-based gaming lifestyle company that provides a 360° inclusive ecosystem for community, culture, connection and opportunity. Our GameHouse is designed to provide optimized networking experiences and incubate talent that accelerates IP for game design and development. It features 3-floors of immersive gaming, meeting rooms, private lounges and is available for co-working during daytime hours, classes & workshops and evening social events.

GAME JAM REGISTRATION:  This event is free, but you must register on the GGJ site to be a part of the festivities!

Each participant will need to get ticket to register as participant (link to external site for free tickets, gather info like full name, contact information (please include your Discord handle), and skills.

We have a team size limit of 5 for prize purposes.

SCHEDULE:  While the Global Game Jam is only 48 hours of actual building of the game, this year, our site is operating from Monday, January 22nd through Sunday, January 28, 2024 with available spaces and resources for participants.

Details are subject to change.

You’re welcome to begin working on your game once Global Game Jam reveals the theme on Friday, January 26, 2024 for you to begin working .

While the Coexist GameHouse will be available for participants to gather and cowork, dev and strategize from Monday, January 30th, our Coexist team will provide content specific resources onsite concentrated from February 3rd - 5th. The detailed schedule is coming soon.

PROJECT SUBMISSION:

This is an inclusive site – people of all ages and backgrounds are welcome to join. You do not need to be an active game developer to participate. Many game developers will be in attendance, too!
